Bookfest 2019 - Damage to Rushmere

We are delighted to hear from the organisers of the Wimbledon Bookfest that this year’s event held on Rushmere was a huge success.

Unfortunately the weather during the week leading up to the event, and during the event itself, was exceptionally wet and, as a result, vehicles servicing the event have caused a considerable amount of damage to the ground in the area of the Common between Rushmere and the Causeway.  This is despite protective road mats being laid on the grass.

We are currently in discussions with the event organisers regarding the work needed to restore this area of the Common. As more rain is forecast this week, we will not undertake any of this restoration work until next week (wb 21st October) at the earliest, as this would risk doing more harm than good whilst trying to carry out the repairs.  However, our Maintenance Team will be on site as soon as possible to ensure the ground is made good.

We will be meeting with the event organisers in the near future to put in place plans for next year to ensure there is no repeat of this year’s damage.
