Restoration of the Beverley Brook Footpath is complete!

We are delighted that the restoration of the footpath along the Beverley Brook on Wimbledon Common - from the Playing Fields to the Brook Cottage Bridge - is complete and the path now open for use.

Regular users of this route will know that the path became extremely muddy in winter and difficult to negotiate in places, but this new path will be a multi-use route, suitable for pedestrians, cyclists, wheelchairs, pushchairs etc., all year round.  As with all designated cycling routes on the Commons, pedestrians have priority and cyclists should always travel at an appropriate and safe speed and give way to other visitors.

The path does look very new and raw at the moment but, as with the recently restored Inner Windmill Road, the colour will tone down with time and use, and the look of it will soften as the vegetation at the sides of the path grow back.

The work has cost in the region of £80,000 and we are extremely grateful to the Southern Western Railway’s Customer and Communities Improvement Fund for their grant of £60,000 and to the Friends of Wimbledon and Putney Commons who have contributed the remainder.
