Big Green Match Fund Campaign 22-29 April 2025 – NOW LIVE!

Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators have once again been selected for the Big Green Match Funding Campaign which runs from today, 22nd April until next Tuesday 29th.
We are fundraising for an important hydrology study to help us understand how to manage water across the Commons to prevent drying up of our varied wetlands, and how to better manage flooding in other areas, including footpaths and the playing fields, to improve biodiversity and visitor access - and future-proof the Commons.
Over the last 30 years, winter rainfall has increased by 8.7% and is projected to increase by a further 10% over the next 19 winters. The Commons is already seeing the impact of this affecting plant and wildlife and also visitors with paths being eroded and flooded, rendering them inaccessible and impassable. In addition, the Commons’ playing fields used by local teams and schools suffer with surface water run-off and are often water-logged and unusable.
Your donations will allow us to undertake this vital specialist study to fully understand the flow and pooling of water on the Commons, which consists of wetland habitats including nine ponds, the Beverley Brook, four bogs, wet woodland and heathland and 3.5km of streams.
The charity can then act on the results and recommendations to put in place a robust long-term water management plan to eradicate the above issues, increase biodiversity and improve the visitor experience.
Thanks to Match Funding from the Big Give Trust, every £1 donated will turn into £2, helping us reach our target of £8,000 – although we don’t want to stop there!
Plus, if you're a UK taxpayer, you can increase the value of your donation by 25% at no extra cost through Gift Aid!
