Reports of "Alabama Rot" on the Commons

“Alabama Rot” - Cutaneous and Renal Glomerular Vasculopathy (CRGV)

We have received a report that a dog walked on the Commons has been treated for symptoms that are similar to those of Alabama Rot.  We understand that the dog is recovering well having been treated quickly.

Although it has not been confirmed as a case of Alabama Rot - this is generally done post mortem - it is worth remembering to check your dog regularly for any symptoms of this disease.

Frustratingly, little is currently known about the disease and how it is spread or contracted but a veterinary specialist, Anderson Moores, has issued information for dog owners and a copy of this can be found here.  This gives information on symptoms to look out for, which include unexplained redness, sores or swelling of the skin.

Early veterinary intervention is critical and we advise you to check your dog regularly for any symptoms and seek immediate medical advice if you are at all concerned.
