Heathrow Airspace and Future Operations Consultation

The proposed changes to operations at Heathrow Airport, and its effect locally, is of concern to many of our Levy-payers.  

The current consultation, which closes on 4th March, covers the three areas:

• Airspace change for an expanded Heathrow: design of future airspace and the local factors that should be considered in different geographic areas when designing future flight paths. 
• Airspace change to make better use of the existing two runways: the local factors that should be considered in different geographic areas when designing new flight paths for some arrivals on our existing two runways
• Future operations for an expanded Heathrow: operation of three runways in the future, this includes managing noise; respite through runway and airspace alternation; directional preference and night flights. 

In recognition of its duty to protect the Commons, the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators agreed at their recent Board meeting to submit an objection in response to the this consultation, recognising the potential detrimental impact that the increased numbers of flights will have on visitors’ enjoyment of the Commons as well as the harmful effect of increased pollution on the rare and statutorily protected habitats.
