With a small team of 25 staff, managing the Commons can be challenging, involving three key areas:
Established by a separate Act of Parliament in 1871, the Commons are primarily financed by a dedicated levy on residential properties that are within three-quarters of a mile of Wimbledon Common or in the old Parish of Putney. This income is supplemented by charitable activities, such as the use of the Richardson Evans Playing Fields for sports and events. Although this income allows us to meet our ongoing operational costs, it does not allow for any restoration or refurbishment projects.
There are several ways you can help - hands on volunteering, join our newly-established Friends of Wimbledon and Putney Commons, making a one-off or recurring donation, or perhaps consider leaving us a legacy in your will.
