Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Event

Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

2nd June 2022 from 8.45pm

Please join us at The Windmill on the evening of 2 June 2022 as we mark the occasion of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and take part in the nationwide event of the lighting of beacons by illuminating the Windmill.

Hosted by the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators in collaboration with the Wimbledon Windmill Museum Trustees, the event will start with two walks across the Common to the Windmill  Both walks will arrive at the Windmill where there will be a candlelit celebration, with a performance by St Mary’s Choir, with the Windmill transformed into a Beacon for the evening.

The first walk will be led by Stephen Hammond MP and will commence at the Wimbledon War Memorial and follow Centre Path to the Windmill.  The second walk will commence at the Roehampton War Memorial and follow Scio Ride and Windmill Ride North to the Windmill.  Upon arrival at the Windmill, everyone will be given a candle to light.

Please join us for one of the walks or, alternatively, you can meet us at the Windmill where the car park will remain open.

Holding an Event on Wimbledon and Putney Commons

As the Commons are now a popular location for events, you will need to seek permission from the Ranger's Office before organising any formal or semi-formal event on or across the Commons.  This is to ensure that there is no clash of events that would spoil the enjoyment of participants, or negatively impact our visitors, other users or  indeed have a negative impact on the Commons - a protected Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Whilst we are limited to the size and type of event we can host here on the Commons, we are always happy to see if we can help.  Please complete the Enquiry Form and one of our team will get back to you to discuss your request.

As a charity, we do charge for events on the Commons.  The charges will depend on the nature of the event.  Please contact the Ranger's Office for further information.
