2019 Winter Talk - "Trees and a Changing Landscape"

 "Trees and a Changing Landscape"

The theme for this year's Winter Talk will be around trees and their importance for biodiversity and the need for sensitive tree management, particularly on a site such as Wimbledon and Putney Commons



Jonathan Meares, Trees and Conservation Manager for the City of London Corporation.

In this role, Jonathan manages both Highgate Wood, an Ancient Woodland site, and is responsible for the nature conservation and tree operations on Hampstead Heath.  Jonathan also has a small consultancy business and works with our conservation team on tree safety management, helping us develop zoned tree inspection system using GPS technology.

David Humphries, Trees Management Officer, Hampstead Heath

David has worked at Hampstead Heath for 34 years, starting as a horticultural apprentice and moving in to the tree team as a climber in 1992 and now the Trees Management Officer directly responsible for looking after tree safety, tree health, pest & disease and the conservation of the veteran trees of the Heath.  David's area of specialism is trees and fungi, particularly fungal decay and the mycorrhiza and tree symbiosis.

Cost: Free of charge but donations welcomed
Refreshments: Tea and coffee available (free) from 7.00pm.  The bar will be open if you wish to purchase other refreshments.
