Walks

The Commons are made for walking, with more than 1,100 acres providing scenic views and the perfect backdrop for Sunday afternoon strolls and mid-week dog walks.

With extensive trails to explore the woodlands, heathlands and ponds, the Commons welcomes visitors from miles around who enjoy walking around this beautiful part of London.

You can also join the various complimentary community walks hosted by the commons, including guided walks led by our own staff and local experts – get fit, make friends and learn about our beloved green spaces, their habitats, heritage and wildlife.

Healthy Walks

Led by one of our team or a volunteer, regular one-hour walks at a moderate pace exploring various areas of the Commons. No need to book, just turn up! Further details here: Healthy Walks.

Bird Walks

Join our volunteer bird expert, Les Evans-Hill, for comprehensive 2-hour walks across the Commons to spot seasonal birdlife. Keep checking our Events page for details or sign up to our Mailing List. Booking required.

We also host occasional evening bat walks and butterfly walks in the summer. Again, check our Events page for details.

Walk & Talk

Founded two years ago by local volunteers, the Wimbledon Village & Common Walk & Talk meets every Saturday, 10.30am at Wimbledon War Memorial for a gentle stroll across the Commons and, as the name suggests, a talk with fellow walkers.

A second Walk & Talk group, Putney and Roehampton, was launched this Autumn focusing on Putney Heath, meeting every Saturday at 10.30am at the Green Man, Wildcroft Road. Volunteers are wanted for both groups. More details here: Walk and Talk.

Walking Top Tips

Please take care around the horse rides and the golf course – a map of the Commons is available from the Rangers Office.

Sturdy walking shoes or boots (or similar) are recommended as the terrain can vary and can be muddy, particularly in the winter.

Best foot forward!
