Conservators Launch Consultation on the Commons' Levy

Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators
Levy Consultation

In early September, the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators will be launching a formal consultation to seek views on a proposal to increase the Commons’ levy to fund the sustainable management of the Commons.  The consultation document will be posted to all households in the levy-paying area and will also be sent to key stakeholders.  The consultation follows an informal consultation that was carried out in autumn 2022.

The upkeep of the Commons is mainly funded by a levy on properties within three quarters of a mile of the perimeter of Wimbledon Common, measured by the most direct route along roads or footpaths, or within the old Parish of Putney as it was in 1871.  The levy is collected on behalf of WPCC by the local authorities in which the Commons fall - Wandsworth, Merton and Kingston.  Those not liable to pay council tax will not be affected as they do not pay the levy.

Every household falling within the levy-paying area will receive consultation documents through the post, along with details on how to respond.  Further information, including a series of “Questions and Answers” is available on the Conservators’ website here: Consultation Information

The Conservators are also organising a series of public meetings to provide an opportunity to meet the WPCC team, ask questions and learn more about the levy consultation.  The meetings are open to all to attend and details of the meetings are available on the Conservators’ website: Meeting Dates

The consultation will close on 29 October 2023 and all feedback would be very much welcomed.
