The Friends of Wimbledon and Putney Commons bring together all of those who love the Commons to celebrate their significance not only as an important habitat for nature, but the vital opportunity they provide for exercise, recreation and relaxation.
Why Support Us?
Every path, heathland, bog, stream, pond and woodland on the Commons has an incalculable value that requires ongoing investment. As a charity we rely on the support of the community and visitors who cherish this special to keep the Commons open, safe, clean and bursting with nature.
The Commons as we know them today were established by an Act of Parliament in 1871 and in 1972 we became a registered charity (no: 303167). The Commons are primarily funded by a dedicated levy on residential properties that are within three-quarters of a mile of Wimbledon Common or in the old Parish of Putney.
Although this income allows us to meet our ongoing operational costs, it does not allow for any larger restoration or refurbishment projects.
By becoming a Friend of Wimbledon and Putney Commons, you will be playing a crucial role in preserving, protecting and maintaining this unique and special place.
Your benefits as a Friend will include access to special Friends walks, six of which take place each year. These are often led by our highly experienced staff and cover areas such as woodland, heathland, wildlilife and birdsong. Other walks also cover local interest, such as the Grand Houses of Roehampton, the Grand Houses of Rushmere, pond walks and many others. This in itself will more than cover your membership donation.
As a Friend, you will also be invited to attend social events that will provide a unique experience of the Commons, and you will receive a regular e_newsletter keeping you up to date on what's happening in the Commons.

* Individual Friends Concessionary rate is applicable to:
a) Any persons claiming state benefits including disability, unemployment or pension credit

The concession shall apply to Individual membership only. The rate will be £15 per year (or £1.50 per month).
